Meet Me in St. Louis

New lyrics by Rochelle Barry, coach extraordinaire

“Meet me in St Louis” variation--NTPRS 2011

Lyrics by Rochelle Barry, with apologies to the songwriter and lyricists everywhere!

Welcome to St Louis, Louis

NTPRS is here,

Don’t tell me ideas are flowing anyplace too near

We’re with Blaine and Carol and Susie

Every session is a doozy

So good to meet you in St Louis, Louis

Lots to make us cheer.

Repetition and more circling,

Personalize away;

Fun is flowing, language growing

Asking stories all day

But be sure to check comprehension

It is sure to cure the tension

When we are meeting in St. Louis, Louis,

Working seems like play.

Coaching team stands here before you

Looking like big fools

Helping you to practice, practice

Knowing all the rules,

TL not learned, its acquired

Hope this doesn’t get you fired

But in your classes when you ask a story,

Kids will think you’re cool.

Barb & Lisa & Carol put this together

Working night and day

Trying to offer all you need and still some time to play

They make everything so handy

And are superstocked with candy

So lets just thank them when we get a chance

Before we go away.

We’re so glad you came to St. Louis, Louis,

Hope you learned a lot,

Even though what we presented

Ain’t how you were taught

It’s a lot for you to remember

When you head back in September

See you again next year, same time, some place

Our summer camp hits the spot!

On this page are lyrics to several songs performed at NTPRS including Rochelle Barry’s special version of Meet Me in St. Louis and Michael Miller’s two songs, his take on Johnny B. Goode from NTPRS 2011 and Three Step Blues from NTPRS 2010.

Johnny B. Goode

New lyrics by Michael Miller

Well deep down in the trenches in the local schools

Between the Ivy Leagues and the Washington fools

There was a language teacher in a desperate mood

A young and carin’ teacher named ‘a Johnny B. Goode

Whose students never learned to speak or write so well

And Johnny knew tradition in the end would fail

Go! Go! Go, Johnny, go, go, go

Go, Johnny go, go go

Go, to St. Louis, go go

Go, Johnny go, go to NTPRS

He heard about a conference down in Saint Louie

At NTPRS where Krashen set him free

He used to be a slave to Pearson Prentice Hall

Til ole Ben Slavic taught him how to circle with balls

As Linda Li was teaching him to slow right down

Donna gave him nuts and bolts to take back to town

So now he’s back, and Johnny has a story to tell

He’s circling a story like a carousel

Johnny’s cashing in his comprehension checks

And verifying details at the top of the deck

So now his kids can really speak and read and write

His personalization is out o’ sight

Three Step Blues

by Michael Miller

Chorus:

Iʼve got the three step blues at NTPRS

Fluency, now thatʼs for me

This method is the best

Three little steps or so they say

If itʼs only 3 steps then why do we need 5 days?

I went into English, I guess I switched my code

So I did me a birdwalk, till I was pigeon-toed

Look ʻem in the eye, thatʼs what really counts

And after all that, my comprehension checks all bounced.

Tried to peel the banana, couldnʼt get the feel

Tried it from both ends, and I slipped on the peel

Got myself a coach, cuz I couldnʼt get it right

I felt like such a square, after we circled all night

Iʼve Blainewashed, thatʼs what they all said

Going around in circles, Iʼll never get ahead
